I only coach leaders willing to work hard.
“Contrary
to the opinion of many people, leaders are not born. They are made. And they are made just like anything else,
through hard work.” Vince
Lombardi
I’ve become more and more selective in deciding on which leaders I will
coach. I no longer work with leaders
unless they are ready to change, willing to listen to feedback, and able to
experiment with new ways of leading.
The work to become a better leader is not for the faint of
heart. I demand a lot, beginning with
helping the leaders I coach to see themselves far more clearly, with no
blinders or rose-colored glasses, in order that they can fully understand the
impact their actions have on others. And
then, we work together to develop a program that requires them to identify and
implement new ways of getting along with and leading others.
“At first, I was a bit skeptical. I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. But once we got started, Archie made it easy
to talk about stuff I had never discussed before, including how I came across
to others.”
“Archie helped me try and do things I wouldn’t have figured
out on my own. I’m now a lot better in
those situations and conversations that used to be a problem for me.”
“Without his coaching, I wouldn’t be where I am now. He helped me to overcome the self-imposed
obstacles that were holding me back, especially the way I engaged with the
executives in the firm who held my future in their hands.”
“Sometimes it takes someone from the outside to give you the
kind of feedback and advice that puts your career in focus and provides the
kind of perspective needed to help you chart your future. Archie did that for me.”
Coaching is not a feel-good activity – it’s about taking a
hard look at who you are and what others think of you, it’s about honestly
assessing yourself and your career, and it’s about charting and implementing a
realistic and practical course to achieve your career goals. It’s hard work, but if you’re willing to make
the effort, the reward is that you can become a better leader and have a more
successful career.
Ready for a change?
Willing to listen to and accept feedback about how you’re doing? Able to put in the effort to try new things?
If so, let me know.
