I write and speak on leadership.
“The unexamined life is not worth living.” Socrates
“You can observe a lot just by watching.” Yogi Berra
Socrates and Yogi Berra, two of my favorite philosophers, highlight the
essence of my speaking and writing about leadership and especially about how to
become a better leader.
Following Socrates’ advice, I encourage leaders to reflect on their
leadership. I want leaders to develop a
clear and honest understanding of themselves that they can use as the
foundation for their leadership. I use a
lot of stories and quotes of leaders that I know, have worked with, or have
studied to provide vivid and real examples to help leaders to think about and
decide how they are going to deal with the problems and opportunities they face
at work.
Yogi Berra’s comment captures an important element of what I speak and
write about. I have spent a lifetime watching and working with leaders. I’ve
observed that leaders are not alike. Their
experiences, backgrounds, personal characteristics, and circumstances are so
different from those of other leaders that it is virtually impossible to lump
them all together and provide a single or common approach that will work for all
leaders. Every leader’s situation is
different. A critical part of my work is
to help the leaders I work with to identify, understand, define, and explain
their individual and unique style of leadership, both for themselves and for
others they work with.
“I read Archie’s newsletter, Tinelli on Leadership, every month without
fail. It always makes me think.”
“Many newsletters are merely links to someone else’s ideas or a polemic
of some kind. Not Archie’s. His is clear, engaging, interesting, and
thought-provoking, without the self-serving articles that so many other
newsletters include.”
“Archie has spoken to us several times, and each time I learn something
new about leadership or myself, or both.”
“Archie was the kind of speaker that our firm needs to have speak to us
more. He was down-to-earth, understood
our business and, most importantly, provided us with an opportunity to think
about who we are as leaders and what we can do to become better leaders.”
